For most people, the days before Christmas are so busy – there’s a house to decorate, gifts to buy, meals to cook, relatives to connect with and many events to attend. It’s often difficult to find even a few minutes of quietness in the midst of the extreme hubbub. Indeed, in all the rush, we may even forget the real reason for the season.
Our church prayer room (formerly the glebe’s room), off the Huston Hall, is a calm oasis. It offers the opportunity to withdraw from the crowds. It’s a place to sit quietly; to reflect and pray, not just at Christmas, but any time.
It is for everyone. Maybe you would like to spend a few minutes there before or after a meeting of your group or organisation. Or, simply call in whenever the hall is open, which is most days and evenings. You can also gain entry during office hours (Tuesdays & Wednesdays 9am – 2pm), via the Parochial Hall.
Let’s take up Jesus’ invitation in Mark 6:31 …
Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.
Heavenly Father, as once again we prepare for Christmas, help us to find time in our busy lives for quiet and thought and prayer, that we may reflect upon the wonder of your love and allow the story of the Saviour’s birth to penetrate our hearts and minds. So may our joy be deeper, our worship more real, and our lives worthier of all that you have done for us through the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
